This work is part of another project I am working on.  I am looking at traditional Jewish prayers or blessing, and thinking about them for how they relate to modern days.  I am also trying to imagine which prayers we need now, in our world, that perhaps we haven't given voice to.

Here is one of the first ones I've done.

A Prayer for Learning

For Melton Class

Blessed are you, O Lord, our God, Guardian of the Universe, who has sanctified us with your commandments and has commanded us to study the words of Torah.

We came seeking answers
To go beyond the who, what, where, and when
To seek out WHY whenever possible
To join and travel through this process with each other
To value our different perspectives
To cherish the companionship
Teachers expected and unexpected
To welcome queries and insights
To become not just better thinkers
Not merely more informed people
But to become better human beings
O Lord
Help me seek out communities like this one
That both embrace and challenge me
Help me never to feel that I have THE answer
Keep me seeking and exploring for the many answers
Let me pursue the multitudinous, multifaceted realities
Let me find complexity and truth
O Lord
Keep me growing

Help me remember
That sometimes
I should sit with questions
